Annual animal stock at London Zoo
According to annual tradition, a count of all animals is performed in London Zoo in early January. One of the species one is particularly proud of is the Vietnamese magnolia snail. In 2013 the zoo received some of these snails. For a long time it was thought that the species was extinct, but recently it was rediscovered. Currently, the zoo has 5 adult animals and 37 young, the first of which have been bred in a zoo.
However, London Zoo also plays a pioneering role in the breeding of the endangered Partula snails, assisting in the breeding and reintroduction of a species in Bermuda and the start of a breeding program for endangered species in the Seychelles.
